As totally land-based refit facilities were phased in starting in the 1980s (Bremmerton andKings Bay for Boomers; New London and San Diego for fast attacks) - the tenders saw more and more deployments at sea covering vast regions rather than the "stay at the home port" deployments of the 1960s and 1970s. These cruises, particularly for the tenders in the Pacific - were very reminiscent of the "show the flag" Asiatic Station cruises during the late teens - through the 30's. |
