I went aboard the Hunley in November of 1968, right out of "a school", where I was taught to be a patternmaker. I was eventually assigned to the carpenter shop, R-7 div., under Chief Reeves. Looking back on my service I have found my time was well spent and I had the opportunity to meet some knowledgeable, interesting, and wonderful guys. The Hunley was going to Guam, my time was short so in June, I believe, of 1971, I was transferred to the Orion. Once again I was uder Chief Reeves, in the carpenter shop, as he was transferred also. I left the service in December of that same year. I would sure like to hear from anyone from the carpenter shops of either ship, that may have served with me. Chief, where are you and Padlo or Spurgeon, Finnesy, Dulin, Skipper or Clem? |
