My father, James G. Andrews, was the Commanding Officer of the Sperry from 7/58 - 7/59. I was 5 when he took command and I thought I'd never seen such a beautiful ship. I remember seeing the subs tied up to her sides and riding the gig out to the Sperry. Although I was young, I have great memories of that year in Coronado and the USS Sperry. I know that my father, who passed some years ago, would be so proud to know that his grandson is joining the Marines and carrying on the military tradition in our family. God bless all of you who have served and those who supported you and kept the home front running. |
