Entries are display most recent first.

Please note - due to a recent "hacking" incident -
entries between August 2008 and December 2011 were lost.
Unfortunately- every effort to recover the lost entries was unsuccessful
as even the backup files were corrupted beyond repair. Fortunately an off-site
backup of the earlier entries was available and is here. We regret this loss.

Name:

Donna Sarkany

Tender:

Dixon AS-37

Comments:

Fresh out of boot camp and to the decks of the Dixon. Fireman assigned to the CO2 shop. I left her for HT A school on TI in San Francisco. Returned to Point Loma after school, but to the San Onofre ARD-30. Being female in a male dominated rate had an advantage in the 80s. I loved my time in the navy and on both of these wonderful vessels. Both Ships are now gone. I believe the ARD-30 was sold to Mexico. The saddest is the Dixon, now lays on the bottom of the Atlantic after serving her country so proudly for so many years. Here is to all of crew that served proudly aboard her in that "Can do Spirit" for so many years. Thank you for putting this site together, keep up the good work.

Name:

Joseph T. Strelecki

Tender:

USS Canopus AS-34

Comments:

I was aboard the Canopus from September 1972 until April 1976. Assigned To "A" Division. I worked in the Steam Heat Shop, tried to keep the laundry and galley equipment running so the crew could have clean clothes and "outstanding" chow, also tried real hard to keep those crappy steam hot water heaters running somewhere between real &*@# cold and steam: was Divisional Supply PO, {what me cumshaw something?}, and worked in the O2N2 Shop, cooling coke's and freezing off warts was our specialty. Came aboard an ENFA and left an EN2. Joe Strelecki ENCS USN (Retired)

Tender:

USS L.Y. Spear AS-36

Comments:

Thanks for creating this site! Man it's sad to see the USS Spear being sunk, she was my first and favorite ship, while on board USS Cole we did a sinkex on a tender, can't remember which one, sorry but it was sad for me, being an ex-tender sailor.

I'd like to send an invite to everyone to check out http://www.togetherweserved.com if you haven't already, it's an awesome site to get back in touch with your shipmates, it's only for active or former military.

Name:

Ron Garcia

Tender:

USS Gilmore AS 16

Comments:

On Board the Gilmore in Key West 1972 a month before going to Mobile Al. and Pascagoula for refit to be deployed to LaMaddalena Italy. We left Pascagoula and went back to Key West for a week then shake down in Cuba. A day liberty in Haiti (we lost our anchor "litterally fell to the bottom of the bay in Haiti). Then went to Charleston for a few last upgrades. Arriving at LaMadd, there was a pier and that is all. The CBs built a beer hall and a basket ball court. The funniest memory was the crazy Italian drivers got on the bumper cars with their girlfriends and did not want to be hit or run into. they just wanted to cruise around. They got real mad when they were bumped. I left the Gilmore in June of 75. We had a picnic on July 4th of 74 which I really was looking forward to but ended up on a tug boat with gyro parts to meet a sub out in the straights. Was let off a few days later in Naples. It was a great time of Spiritual growth for me as I spent most of my time looking for Christians and fellowshipping with them. Anyone remember me. Please email. Ron
